Otumfuo cautions new Ashanti Regional Police Commander against meddling in chieftaincy, land disputes

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has advised the newly appointed Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto, to refrain from intervening in chieftaincy and land-related disputes, emphasizing that such matters fall solely under his authority as the traditional ruler of Asanteman.

He explained that issues of land ownership and traditional leadership are outside the Police Service’s mandate and should therefore be referred to the appropriate traditional channels for resolution.

“Any chief who approaches the Police Commander with land issues should be directed to seek my intervention,” the Asantehene stated. He added that if the Police Commander becomes aware of any ongoing land dispute, he must immediately bring it to the Asantehene’s attention for action.

Otumfuo also urged DCOP Akoto to focus on strengthening security across the region, intensifying efforts to curb theft and other social vices, and ensuring law and order to promote lasting peace and stability in the Ashanti Region.

The advice was given during a courtesy call by the new Police Commander at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

The outgoing Regional Police Commander, COP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, expressed gratitude to His Majesty for his guidance and support during his tenure and formally introduced DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto as his successor.
