Ghana Airports Company urges travellers to report extortion at airports

-

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has launched a public awareness campaign encouraging travellers and airport users to help combat extortion by reporting any incidents involving staff of agencies operating at the country’s airports.

The campaign, themed “Help Fight Extortion at Our Airports,” seeks to curb illegal monetary demands while promoting transparency and improving customer experience across all terminals.

Travellers are urged to report acts of extortion by staff of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Revenue Authority (Customs), Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), and other supporting agencies, including Port Health, Airlines, Ground Handlers, and Private Security Companies.

Reports can be made via call, text, or WhatsApp to 0542 175 636 for prompt action.

GACL reminded the public that all airport staff are required to display clearly visible identification cards for easy verification. Travellers were also advised to confirm the identity and agency of any officer if in doubt.

In a statement, the Company said the initiative underscores its commitment to maintaining a seamless and corruption-free travel experience for passengers.

“We solicit the cooperation of the general public in our continuous effort to enhance seamless travel experience at our airports,” the statement concluded.
