The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asutifi North Constituency has expressed strong disappointment over allegations linking its Member of Parliament, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, to the attack on the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in Hwidiem on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
In a statement issued by the Constituency Communications Directorate, the party described the incident as a “global shame” and accused the MP of actions that tarnish both the constituency’s and the party’s reputation.
The statement also alleged that Mr. Addo has a history of collaborating with thugs and illegal miners (“galamseyers”) before, during, and after the 2024 general elections.
Additionally, the NPP criticized the MP for failing to deliver on key campaign promises, including the completion of the Ntotroso-Acherensua bridge project, rural electrification in several communities, and partnerships with Newmont Ghana Gold to support small-scale miners.
The constituency leadership commended the swift response of the Inspector General of Police and Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, urging investigative bodies to carry out a fair and impartial probe into the matter without political interference.
The statement concluded with a call for stronger leadership and effective representation in Asutifi North, emphasizing the need to uphold the rule of law and ensure accountability in governance.
