I deserve a diplomatic passport too – King Ayisoba

Veteran traditional musician King Ayisoba believes he deserves to be honoured with a diplomatic passport for his role in promoting Ghanaian traditional music across the world.

In an interview with broadcaster Kafui Dey, a snippet of which was shared on X (formerly Twitter), the “I Want To See You, My Father” hitmaker said his consistent efforts in showcasing Ghana’s rich cultural heritage internationally merit the same recognition recently given to five Ghanaian creatives.

“For me, the people who received the diplomatic passports, I cannot say they don’t deserve it. Rocky Dawuni has worked hard—it is not easy to be nominated for a Grammy. But I hope they will also think about me because when it comes to Ghanaian music traditions, if they will be truthful, I’m one of the best,” he said.

King Ayisoba, however, clarified that he holds no resentment towards those honoured, acknowledging their contributions to promoting Ghana globally.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, recently announced that five Ghanaian creatives had been awarded diplomatic passports for their impact in uniting Africans worldwide.

The honourees include travel vlogger Wode Maya, Grammy-nominated artiste Rocky Dawuni, broadcaster Anita Erskine, visual artist Ibrahim Mahama, and entrepreneur Dentaa Amoateng MBE.

They have also been named ambassadors for the upcoming 2025 Diaspora Summit, scheduled to take place in Accra from December 17 to 20.

Diplomatic passports, typically reserved for government officials and envoys, are issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on behalf of the President and confer certain diplomatic privileges and travel benefits.
