Reggae-dancehall artiste Ras Kuuku has made a strong case for himself to be included on the bill should Jamaican superstar Vybz Kartel ever perform in Ghana.
Speaking in an interview, Ras Kuuku insisted that his contribution to the growth of reggae-dancehall in Ghana makes him an undeniable part of the genre’s story.
He educated that reggae and dancehall emerged in Ghana as separate genres and it took his effort as one of the few to pioneers the fusion.
“Anything about reggae-dancehall that doesn’t include me is 100 minus 90. We built reggae-dancehall. There used to be reggae and dancehall as separate genres, but we fused them together and made it happen from 2010 till date,” he said
According to Kuuku, if he were given the power to select artistes to perform alongside Vybz Kartel, he would go for Samini, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, and Iwan, describing them as pillars of Ghana’s reggae-dancehall movement.
He justified that though Iwan is absent from mainstream, he is currently working in the background, producing dancehall rythym which he gifts to new crop of artistes to keep the flame of the genre blazing.
For the remaining, Ras Kuuku simply remarked that their talent and accomplishments speak on their behalf.
Ras Kuuku believes that a lineup featuring himself and these four artistes would electrify any stage.
“Imagine the five of us on one stage, fireworks!” he exclaimed.
