The Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Asunafo South in the Ahafo Region, Dr. Eric Opoku, has officially cut the sod for the construction of a six-unit classroom block and teachers’ quarters at the D/A Basic School in Noberkaw.
The brief ceremony was attended by the Ahafo Regional Minister, the District Chief Executive, traditional leaders, staff of the Ghana Education Service, and community residents. The project is expected to significantly enhance teaching and learning in the area.
Dr. Opoku explained that the government is committed to building a fully furnished classroom block along with residential quarters to accommodate three teachers. He noted that previous community-led fundraising efforts for the project had not been successful.
According to the Minister, the contractor has been given a five-month deadline to complete both projects so that pupils and teachers can begin using the facilities without delay.
The Chief of Noberkaw, Nana Basoa Kumani III, expressed gratitude to Dr. Opoku for addressing a major community need. He recalled that the MP had previously contributed GH¢20,000 toward the fundraising effort and had assured residents that, if his party won the 2024 elections, the government would prioritize the school project.
“Today, that promise is becoming a reality,” Nana Kumani said, commending the MP for delivering on his word.
