The Ghana Police Service has recovered 10 stolen vehicles trafficked into the country from the Netherlands after a joint operation with the Netherlands Embassy and international security firm, Digitpol.
Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, confirmed the development during a press briefing on Saturday.
She lauded the collaboration between Ghanaian authorities, Dutch security agencies, and Digitpol for its effectiveness in tracking and recovering the vehicles.
“Recently, the Police collaborated with the Netherlands Embassy and Digitpol, a security company that works closely with the Netherlands Police, to track and recover stolen vehicles trafficked into Ghana,” COP Donkor said.
The three-day operation, conducted between September 15 and 17, 2025, resulted in the recovery of eight Toyota RAV4s and two Toyota CH-Rs.
The vehicles, which had been reported stolen in the Netherlands, were traced to different parts of Accra, including Kantamanto, Nima, and Cantonments.
COP Donkor stressed that the successful operation demonstrates the critical role of international partnerships in tackling transnational crimes such as vehicle trafficking.
“These operations highlight the importance of international cooperation in fighting vehicle-related crimes,” she stated.
The CID boss advised prospective vehicle buyers, particularly those purchasing second-hand imports, to demand proof of ownership and verify vehicle details with INTERPOL Accra before finalising any transaction.
She further reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the public from criminal networks and pledged to deepen its collaboration with global partners to prevent such crimes in the future.
