Comic actor Don Little has narrated a frightening experience during his recent trip to Ethiopia, where he narrowly escaped arrest after a misunderstanding over currency exchange.
According to him, he arrived in Addis Ababa early in the morning ahead of his midnight flight but was left stranded with only Ghana cedis on him. In need of local currency, he approached a passerby for help with an exchange.
Instead of assistance, the individual grew suspicious, accused him of being a thief, and called the police.
Don Little said he was rescued when another passerby recognized him as a Ghanaian entertainer and intervened.
“That was how I had my freedom. But for that person, I would have been arrested and charged. Ghanaians would have had their last laugh over me, all because I was very hungry and had no cash apart from Ghana cedis. I didn’t change money because I didn’t know the waiting time would be extended,” he explained.
The actor has since advised travelers to always convert their money into the local currency of their destination to avoid similar situations.
