The Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF) has petitioned the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), demanding disciplinary action against Dr. David Tenkorang Twum, General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).
According to GNAFF, Dr. Tenkorang made “unprovoked and derogatory” remarks about Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Ghanaian farmers during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on August 22, 2025.
In a statement signed by President Michael Tetteh Kwetey and General Secretary Dr. Abutu Kapori, the association said the comments were unbecoming of a leader in such a sensitive profession.
“Farmers and fishermen form the backbone of the nation’s economy and ensure food security. It is disturbing that a senior figure in a professional body would resort to language that undermines their contribution,” the petition stated.
The association revealed that an earlier 24-hour ultimatum for Dr. Tenkorang to retract and apologise was ignored.
GNAFF is therefore urging the NMC to investigate the matter, impose sanctions in accordance with its code of ethics, and compel Dr. Tenkorang to issue a formal apology to farmers, fishermen, and the Health Minister.
The group stressed that “firm action is necessary to protect the reputation of the nursing and midwifery profession and to maintain public trust in its leadership.”
