The Ministry of Health has confirmed that the committee investigating the recent assault on health workers at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) will submit its report today, Monday, August 25.
The committee was set up by Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh following public outrage over a viral video that captured a clash between relatives of a patient and medical staff at the hospital’s emergency unit.
Head of Communications at the Ministry, Tony Goodman, disclosed on Citi FM that the committee had completed its work after speaking to witnesses, including the nurse in charge at the time.
“By Monday, the report will be given to the Minister,” he confirmed.
The altercation, involving one Ralph St. Williams who has been identified as the alleged instigator, sparked widespread concern over the safety of frontline health workers.
Police have since made some arrests, while the Health Minister visited the facility and directed a full-scale inquiry to ensure accountability and prevent future occurrences.
Meanwhile, one of the victims, Nurse Rejoice Tsotsoo Bortei, has filed a GH₵7 million lawsuit against Mr. Williams.
In her writ at the High Court, she is demanding GH₵5 million in damages for battery and GH₵2 million for defamation, claiming he physically assaulted her and later made damaging comments about her on social media.
