A DAF long truck transporting about 600 bags of cement plunged into the Tano River on the Techiman–Kumasi Highway on Tuesday after an attempt to avoid colliding with a motorbike.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the incident occurred near Kuntuso when the truck, with registration number GX-8042-22, was travelling from Offinso to Drobo.
The driver reportedly swerved off the road to avoid hitting a Hajue motorbike rider, causing the vehicle to veer into the river.
A rescue team from the Techiman Metro Fire Station arrived promptly at the scene and found the truck’s mate trapped inside the cowl.
He was safely removed and handed over to the National Ambulance Service for medical attention.
The GNFS reported that a significant quantity of the cement was salvaged during the operation.
Personnel are advising motorists on the stretch to drive with caution as investigations continue into the incident.
