My appointment was based on competence – Kojo Choi

Ghana’s Ambassador-Designate to South Korea, Kojo Choi, has denied claims that he is politically affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), despite his appointment by President John Dramani Mahama.

In an interview with Accra-based Channel One TV, Mr. Choi stressed that his career and professional relationships go beyond party politics. “I have never been political. I know many people in the NPP. For instance, our company, PaySwitch, was launched by Dr. Bawumia, who attended because of his interest in digitalisation, not for political reasons,” he explained.

He also highlighted that former First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo attended the opening of his art gallery out of support for the arts, not political alignment. “Her presence was inspired by her passion for the arts and her support for my vision to promote emerging artists,” Choi added.

He emphasised that his friendships span both major parties and insisted that he has “never lobbied or sponsored” any political activity. “I have always been a quiet entrepreneur,” he noted.

Born in South Korea, Choi moved to Ghana at age 14 and later became a naturalised Ghanaian citizen, building strong cultural and business ties between the two countries.
