The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has finalised its investigations into cases involving the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi.
EOCO has also completed investigations into alleged financial crimes involving the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Buffer Stock Company, Abdul Hannan Wahab.
This was disclosed by the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, during his appearance at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, July 28, 2025.
Dr Ayine stated that findings from these investigations will soon be made public, and highlighted them as key outcomes under the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative.
He also noted that the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has concluded its probe into the Akonta Mining case, with dockets forwarded to the relevant authorities.
According to the Attorney General, charges have already been filed and suspects will be arraigned in court in due course.
These developments mark significant progress in the government’s pursuit of accountability in high-profile cases, including the controversial Sky Train scandal.
Dr Ayine assured the public that updates will continue as further action is taken in response to these alleged financial and organised crimes.
Chairman Wontumi was granted bail of GH₵50 million with two sureties to be justified, following his arrest on Tuesday, May 27, in connection with investigations into alleged fraud, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.
The charges are said to include potential links to a broader international organised crime syndicate, as previously hinted by the Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai.
It also emerged that the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) was preparing its own docket in parallel with the EOCO and CID investigations into Chairman Wontumi’s alleged activities.
