Two who tortured boy in viral child video granted bail

The Gender-Based Violence Court in Sekondi has granted bail to two men standing trial for the alleged assault of a 12-year-old boy in New Ankasa, near Elubo in the Western Region.

Presided over by Her Honour Mrs. Naa Amarley Akowuah, the court granted bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two sureties—one of whom must be either an Assembly Member from New Ankasa or an officer of the Municipal Assembly.

The suspects, Issa Morro, 58, and Abdul Rashid, 27, appeared before the court on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

As part of the bail conditions, the accused persons are required to report weekly to the Elubo Police Station.

The two were arrested on June 24, 2025, after a viral video showed the boy being hanged from a roof and severely beaten over an alleged theft of GH¢200, sparking widespread public outrage.

Meanwhile, during the proceedings, counsel for the accused, Allah Mensah, revealed that he had petitioned the Attorney General for an amendment to the three charges brought against his clients.

The case has been adjourned to July 25, 2025.
