Black Queens midfielder Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah says Ghana’s 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign will only be considered a success if the team lifts the trophy.

Ghana booked a place in the quarterfinals for the first time in nine years with a commanding 4-1 win over Tanzania in their final Group C game on Monday.

Speaking to Joy Sports, Boye-Hlorkah stressed that while the team has made progress, nothing short of winning the title will satisfy their ambition.

“[This tournament will only be successful for me] when we take the trophy,” she said. “I think we deserve it. I think we deserve the respect from African football.”

“I want to give this continent so much respect, but I also want to gain it. The only way you gain it is by performing, by showing who we are. So a successful tournament for me is taking home the only thing that you can take home — the trophy.”

The Black Queens are set to face Algeria in the quarterfinals on Saturday, July 19, at the Berkane Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 17:00 GMT.
