Ablekuma North: EC to re-run election in 19 polling stations

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will re-run the 2024 parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North Constituency at 19 of the 37 polling stations.

In a statement, the Commission explained that the re-run, scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025, follows a meeting with key stakeholders, including representatives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to the EC, although results from the affected polling stations were approved by party agents, they were not verified by the Returning Officers, prompting the need for a fresh vote in those areas.

The Commission also requested that the Ghana Police Service provide the necessary security to ensure a peaceful and transparent process.

The final declaration of results in the constituency has been delayed due to outstanding issues with three of the 281 polling stations, which have significantly stalled the collation process.

Both the NPP and the NDC have claimed victory in what has become one of the most disputed parliamentary contests of the 2024 elections.

Tensions peaked on January 8, 2025, when the Returning Officer for the constituency resigned following a standoff over discrepancies in some pink sheets.

Since then, the EC has suspended the collation process seven times, citing security concerns amidst confrontations between party supporters.

The Commission previously stated it would only consider a re-run after completing the collation of all polling station results—a measure it described as a last resort.
