We planned to resume our strike today, but… – GRNMA [Listen]

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has revealed that it came close to resuming its strike action today, June 26, 2025.

The General Secretary, David Koranteng Twum, disclosed this in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen.

“The National Council decided that we resume the strike today, but after extensive discussions between Wednesday and Thursday, we reached a consensus to rescind our decision,” he stated.

Mr. Twum emphasised that had the strike gone ahead, the association would not have provided any roadmap, adding that nurses in the country are not given the respect they deserve.

He stated that the association has given the government until July 10, 2025, to meet four key demands, warning that the deadline is non-negotiable.

He further cautioned that if the government fails to act within the set timeframe, the GRNMA will not hesitate to resume its industrial action.

The GRNMA on June 13 suspended its strike, which began on June 2, following “fruitful” negotiations with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health and government representatives.

A follow-up meeting was scheduled for Thursday, June 26, but was postponed due to the unavailability of some key stakeholders.

The crucial meeting was to determine whether the truce holds or if nurses and midwives will once again take industrial action, which previously disrupted healthcare services nationwide.
