Black Queens rally from behind to beat Benin in second pre-WAFCON friendly

Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, continued their strong preparations for the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a 4-2 comeback victory over Benin on Wednesday.

Kim Lars Bjorkegren’s side, fresh from a commanding win over Malawi last weekend, started brightly as Nina Norshie opened the scoring just four minutes in with a clever back flick.

Benin responded quickly, equalising in the 11th minute before taking the lead from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute, heading into halftime with a 2-1 advantage.

Ghana came out stronger in the second half, with Alice Kusi levelling the score. Susan Ama Duah then put the Queens ahead in the 70th minute, and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah sealed the win with a goal in the 81st minute.

The Black Queens will wrap up their pre-tournament preparations with a final friendly against Nigeria on Sunday.

Ghana is drawn in Group C at the 2024 WAFCON, set to kick off on July 5. They will face defending champions South Africa, along with Tanzania and Mali, as they aim to win the tournament for the first time in their 13th appearance.
