OSP gives update on SML scandal

-

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has arrested and granted bail to five individuals, including two officials of the Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML) and two from the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), in connection with ongoing investigations into suspected corruption and related offences.

Those arrested include:

  • Evans Adusei, Chief Executive Officer of SML

  • Philip Mensah, former Deputy Commissioner (Legal) at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and now Legal Consultant to SML

  • Kofi Nti, former Commissioner-General of the GRA

  • Joseph Kuruk and Faustina Adjorkor, both officials of the PPA

According to the OSP, the arrests are part of a broader probe into the controversial revenue assurance contracts between the GRA and SML, which have drawn significant public scrutiny over alleged procurement breaches and doubts about their actual financial value to the state.

Earlier, the OSP also confirmed the arrest and detention of:

  • Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, former Commissioner-General of the GRA

  • Isaac Crentsil, former Commissioner of Customs and now General Manager at SML

  • Christian Tetteh Sottie, former Technical Advisor at the GRA and current Managing Director of SML

The trio was detained on Tuesday night after failing to meet bail conditions.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the OSP said the Office of the Special Prosecutor has arrested several current and former officials of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML), and the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) in connection with suspected corruption and related offences.

The investigation is focused on the legality of contracts awarded to SML, including questions about the procurement processes and the company’s claims of delivering significant revenue gains to the state.
