Mahama orders MMDCEs to declare assets by July 15

-

President John Dramani Mahama has directed all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to declare their assets by 15th July 2025, in accordance with the 1992 Constitution.

Speaking at an orientation and training programme for MMDCEs held in Accra on Wednesday, July 18, the President emphasized the critical role of transparency and accountability in public office.

“I wish to remind you that you are among the officeholders required to declare your assets, and so I expect that by July 15, all of you will have complied,” he stated.

Under Article 286 of the Constitution, public officers are mandated to declare their assets before assuming office and upon leaving.

Since his return to office in January 2025, President Mahama has consistently advocated for asset declaration as a key tool in the fight against corruption and in strengthening public trust in government.

He noted that all his appointees have already complied with this constitutional obligation and warned that any MMDCE who fails to do so will face appropriate sanctions.

“Some appointees have already faced consequences for non-compliance,” he added.
