President Mahama reaffirms commitment to traditional rulers

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his administration’s commitment to working closely with traditional rulers, acknowledging their critical role in national development.

Speaking during an engagement with the Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, and his traditional council at the Jubilee House on Friday, the President assured that traditional authorities would be key partners in governance.

“We recognise that tradition is complementary to development—tradition is foundational—and this government will not sideline traditional rulers. We will partner with you, we will listen to your wise counsel, and we will honour your place in the national architecture of governance,” President Mahama stated.

To underscore this commitment, he announced that the Traditional Leadership Support Fund, as outlined in the 2025 Budget, will be disbursed soon.

He explained that the fund is intended to support traditional leaders in the renovation of royal palaces, the preservation of cultural archives, and other essential initiatives.

“The funds will finance the preservation of royal archives, rehabilitation of palaces, and provide logistical support for traditional areas, including the Dagbon Traditional Council,” he noted.
