The penultimate round of the 2024-25 La Liga season features several potential thrillers, including Real Madrid visiting Sevilla, and Barcelona hosting Villarreal.
There is no better place to get your season-long ticket to the best football the world has to offer than DStv!
Barcelona will welcome Villarreal to the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium for one of the most colourful clashes in La Liga – and also one of the most goal-laden! The last three meetings of the Blaugrana and the Yellow Submarine have produced no less than 21 goals!
And with talented attacking players such as Lamine Yamal on show, that number is surely set to rise significantly in this clash.
“He’s special. I’ve said it before, but he’s a genius,” noted Barcelona manager Hansi Flick on Yamal. “When I’m watching from the outside, you see things, but when you watch back on video, it’s incredible the detail of what he does.
“In the big matches, he shows up, and I think he enjoyed the situation. I’m really happy that this talent, if it only comes every 50 years.”
Sevilla, formerly one of the heavyweights of La Liga, have endured a tough couple of years. This season, just keeping clear of relegation danger has been their ambition, but the visit of Real Madrid to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium offers up the chance to relive past glories.
“The challenge of playing Real Madrid is always a great one, but in front of our own supporters we always have belief that a positive result is possible,” said Sevilla attacker Isaac Romero, who scored his side’s first goal in a 4-2 loss to Los Blancos when the teams last met, in December 2024.
“We have not had a season that makes us proud as a team and a club, but all we can do is look to improve and try to make Sevilla finish as high up the table as possible.”
Further matches to watch in this round of Spanish top flight action are Atletico Madrid at home to Real Betis, and Athletic Bilbao visiting Valencia. The latter club has had a similar story to Sevilla this season, but a relatively strong end to the campaign has brought cause for hope.
One of the important players in the second half of Valencia’s campaign has been Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq, who is on loan from Real Sociedad but could potentially end up transferring permanently to Los Che.
