Annoh-Dompreh was not blocked from Assembly during MCE vote – NDC Chairman

Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mark Oliver Kevor, has clarified that Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, was never restricted from entering the Assembly premises during the confirmation of MCE nominee, Philibert Fumey Selorm.

In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Kevor explained that the voting process went smoothly, with 42 ballots cast.

The nominee required at least 28 votes to secure confirmation and received 29 votes.

He stated that each nominee had designated agents and a presiding officer to monitor the voting process. However, tensions arose when the MP insisted on joining the sorting and counting process — a request that was challenged and ultimately denied, leading to some commotion.

“There was a bit of misunderstanding when he tried to join the sorting and counting, which is not allowed, so the situation became tense. Security intervened to restore calm, and the process continued,” Mr. Kevor explained.

He further noted that while the event took place inside the Assembly Hall, a large crowd gathered outside, cheering and hooting, which may have made the MP feel threatened. Police subsequently escorted him to his vehicle for safety.

“At no point was the MP barred from entering the premises. He was even allowed to address the Assembly. The only issue was during the counting, where he was not permitted to participate,” he emphasized.
