The Paramount Chief of the Hwidiem Traditional Area in the Ahafo Region, Osuodumgya Barima Apea-Dwaah Boafo, has expressed concern over the reckless riding of motorbikes in the community and has called on the District Chief Executive (DCE) to help address the issue.
He raised the concern during a visit by the DCE to the traditional council, where the latter officially introduced himself. The chief explained that the overspeeding by motorbike riders is increasingly leading to accidents, including the knocking down of innocent pedestrians.
According to him, the alarming rate of overspeeding has created fear among traders along the roadside and pedestrians alike.
He therefore urged the DCE to collaborate with traditional authorities to take immediate action before any tragic incident occurs.
In response, the DCE for Asutifi South, Benjamin Assabil Donkor, acknowledged the problem and assured the traditional leaders of the assembly’s commitment to addressing it. He said the assembly, with the support of the chiefs, will soon implement measures to curb the menace.
