Sanitation crisis: Central Regional Minister demands urgent action in KEEA

-

The Central Regional Minister, Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere, has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipal Chief Executive to immediately clear a growing pile of refuse along the Komenda Junction roadside leading to the Sugar Factory.

The visibly upset Minister expressed his displeasure upon witnessing the unsightly refuse dump during a routine visit.

He condemned the poor sanitation and warned that such scenes—especially at the entrance of towns—project a negative image of the region.

Meanwhile, the station master at Moree Junction, Wisdom Asheley, also raised concerns to Adom News about the worsening sanitation conditions in his area. He accused Zoomlion Ghana Ltd. of failing to regularly empty refuse containers in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District, leading to overflowing bins and an unbearable stench that disrupts business activities at the station.

Supporting the Regional Minister’s concerns, Mr Asheley called for stricter enforcement of sanitation laws across all districts.

In response, KEEA MCE Ismail Saeed Zagoon clarified that Zoomlion is no longer responsible for waste collection in the affected area.

He assured the Minister that the refuse would be cleared promptly and pledged to prosecute individuals found littering or engaging in open defecation.
