The 35th edition of National Farmers’ Day came to a happy end for Charles Gyamfi who emerged the nation’s 2019 best farmer.
The 58-year-old farmer hails from Tano North district in the Ahafo Region of Ghana where he has established vast plantations of roots and timber as well as livestock.
In his 25 years of farming, Mr Gyamfi can boast of 10 acres of cassava, four acres of yam, 20 acres of cocoyam, 16.5 acres of garden eggs, 500 acres of cocoa, 10 acres of oil palm, 30 acres of plantain, 25 acres of citrus and 70 acres of cashew.
He is also a proud owner of two acres of legumes and 20 acres of teak/timber.

With regards to his animal enterprise, Mr Gyamfi has large ruminants constituting 75 cattles, 25 goats, 2,000 layers of poultry and additional five boxes of bee hives, three fish ponds typically tilapia and catfish and 1,000 snails.
He also emerged 2018 national best cocoa farmer for his effort in boosting the agricultural sector.
With his qualification as a secondary school graduate, the national best farmer employs his knowledge to acquire the best technology for cultivation and harvesting of his crops.

He derives assistance from his 158 employees comprising 38 full time staff, 120 casual staff and one assisting as a relation.
As market-minded as he is, he adds value to his produce by transforming fruits into juice and cassava into gari to meet the standard of his customers.

The father of five also deals in philanthropic works as he has given financial assistance to over a hundred people to enable them enroll onto the National Health Insurance Scheme and also donated hundred bags of cement towards the construction of a clinic in his community.
