SHS placement
Some angry parents and pupils at the Independence Square

The Ghana Education Service (GES) is blaming parents and Cafe attendants for the confusion that has marred the 2019 Senior High School (SHS) placements in Ghana.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of GES, Cassandra Twum-Ampofo, the Computerised School Selection Placement System was to help pupils choose schools at their own convenience and with ease.

“Parents, guardians and café attendants are to blame because they are not helping the process; café attendants who are in a hurry to make money and attend to other people don’t take their time for the pupils to check the schools available online,” she noted.

Madam Twum-Ampofo disclosed this in an interview with Joy News when dozens of parents and their children trooped in to the Black Stars Square on Monday with issues related to the placement system.

“Some people are here for genuine reasons regarding their placements but others are here because they either want us to change their schools or programmes they chose themselves but that is not possible for us to do,” she said.

Madam Twum-Ampofo added: “We educated them well enough about the placement; we were in the schools and the districts and if they have been placed in any of the schools they chose and they want us to change, it is not possible because they were to choose schools within their catchment area and with convenience.”

She urged pupils, who did their self-placement between Monday, September 9, 2019 and Wednesday September 11, 2019, to log into the portal and place themselves again.
