Mrs Jean Mensa, EC chairperson

A former Deputy Communications Minister, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, has described the appointment of Mrs Jean Mensah’s appointment to the Electoral Commission (EC) as a partisan one.

Mr Ofosu’s comment comes on the back of doubts cast by former President John Mahama over the Electoral Commission (EC)’s ability to conduct neutral elections in 2020.

“President Akufo-Addo will never appoint you if you don’t share in his ideologies and philosophies,” Mr Ofosu said.

Speaking on Adom TV‘s Badwam show, the former Minister reiterated Mr Mahama’s position, saying his former boss only spoke the truth as an objective person.

“Jean Mensa and Bossman Asare’s hostile posture and attitude towards the NDC is a manifestation of their clear affiliation to the NPP and the interest which they seek to serve. Jean Mensa, especially has a prejudice against the NDC. If not, she wouldn’t have treated Asiedu Nketiah the way she did at the IPAC meeting,” he said.

Commenting on the EC’s limited registration exercise which is expected to start on June 7, 2019, he said: “The limited registration exercise at the EC’s district offices is an attempt by the EC to frustrate and disenfranchise mainly supporters of the opposition, NDC.”

“The NDC has given a lot of advice and we hope they will take our advice to rescind their decision or better still learn from Afari Gyan and even Charlotte Osei who they heavily criticised,” he stated.
