The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, has disclosed that a total of 40,000 teachers across Ghana have opted out of the GES’ SIC Insurance Policy after a stiff opposition by the teachers over a GH¢ 10.00 monthly deduction from their salaries.
According to Prof Opoku-Amankwa, the 40,000 teachers exited the insurance policy after they were given the option to do so if not interested.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Prof Opoku-Amankwa gave the assurance that effective measures were being put in place to ensure the policy resumes in September for interested teachers.
“We gave the teachers the choice to opt out if not interested and we had about 40,000 teachers across Ghana exiting. They are to pick forms to confirm their exit and after this month, any staff who does not come out to get his or name removed from the list, is deemed to be a member,” he said.
He added that “we have written formally to the Controller and Accountant-General to hold on with the programme for August but we will resume in September.”
