The Bekwai Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Isaac Appiatu, has sentenced a 37-year-old man to 15 years’ imprisonment for defiling an eight-year-old child.
The sentence was pronounced in open court at Bekwai in the Ashanti Region, according to the Ashanti South Regional Police Court Officer.
In an interview with our correspondent, Isaac K. Normanyo, ASP Lloyd Baidoo Esq., the Ashanti South Regional Police Court Officer and Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO), confirmed the judgment.
He said the court’s decision is expected to serve as a deterrent to others in society.
ASP Baidoo further disclosed that the court has recorded what appears to be a high number of defilement cases within the week.
He revealed that the court is currently handling five defilement cases.
