The Director of Training for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nelson Owusu Ansah, has dismissed projections that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will secure 40 percent of votes in the Ashanti Region in the 2028 general elections.

He argued that the target is unattainable for the NDC, given that the region remains a solid and unshakable stronghold of the NPP.

The National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, had earlier disclosed that the ruling party is targeting to increase its votes from 33.36% in the 2024 presidential election to about 40% in the Ashanti Region in the next general election. He noted that such a margin would help the NDC consolidate its stay in power.

However, reacting to the assertion on Nhyira FM Kuro Yi Mu Nsem, Mr. Owusu Ansah said the NDC is merely living in a dream.

“40 percent where? In 2028, it can only be in their dreams. It can never happen in the Ashanti Region,” he stated.

The NPP’s Director of Training admitted that the party suffered its worst electoral setback in the Ashanti Region in the 2024 elections, but insisted that history will not repeat itself.

“I’m telling you today, our worst ever performance for the party, NPP. We have seen the worst. And we are never going to see this thing again happening,” he emphasized.

Mr. Owusu Ansah attributed the party’s poor showing in 2024 to voter apathy, internal wrangling, and complacency among the party’s base in its stronghold but noted that lessons have been learned.

He disclosed that the regional leadership of the NPP is currently undertaking massive reorganization efforts behind the scenes to re-energize the party base.

“If you see videos and pictures of party leadership in the region, a lot is happening. You are only seeing just about two percent of what is happening. A lot of things are going on underground,” he disclosed.

According to him, the party is reconnecting with grassroots supporters, resolving internal disputes, and strengthening its polling station structures to ensure maximum turnout in 2028.

He expressed confidence that with the current restructuring, the NPP will not only maintain its dominance in the Ashanti Region but will also close all loopholes that allowed the NDC to make significant inroads in 2024.

“The NPP is coming back stronger. Ashanti Region will prove again that it is our stronghold. The NDC should forget about 40%,” he added.
