Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz says Ghana are ready to fight for possession and attack throughout the 90 minutes of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against The Gambia.
Ghana face The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, 29 September, looking to recover from their 2-0 defeat by Côte d’Ivoire in their opening Group C fixture.
Queiroz said he would gladly make an agreement with his Gambian counterpart over how the match should be played.
“I’m going to make an agreement with the Gambia coach. Give me the ball for 90 minutes. I promise, we attack. 90 minutes,” the 73-year-old Portuguese coach said.
Queiroz believes Ghana must dominate possession if they are to secure the result they need.
“We know that if you want to win the game, we have to fight to have the ball with us. We have to recover the ball. We have to keep the ball with us,” he said.
The former Portugal and Iran coach also wants his players to be positive and aggressive when they have possession.
“After we keep the ball, we have to play with a positive mind and express our skills to go forward and try to score,” he added.
Queiroz remains confident that a stronger attacking display, coupled with better finishing, can put Ghana in a position to claim their first points of the campaign.
“I am very much confident that with positive football, attacking football, if our performance tomorrow is better, we’re gonna be close to winning the game,” he said.
Ghana’s defeat by Côte d’Ivoire has increased the importance of Tuesday’s encounter as they seek to return to the AFCON after missing the 2025 tournament in Morocco.
That absence ended Ghana’s run of more than two decades of consecutive appearances at the continental showpiece.
Queiroz will now hope his side can respond against The Gambia and put their qualification campaign back on track with a positive result in Accra.
