Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey says he is ready to return to action after being unable to join Ghana’s squad in Canada for their opening 2026 World Cup match against Panama last week.

The 33-year-old was denied entry into Canada over alleged rape charges, forcing him to miss Ghana’s Group L opener against the Central American nation.

Despite Partey’s absence, the Black Stars secured a winning start to their campaign, with a late strike from Caleb Yirenkyi sealing a 1-0 victory.

Speaking to reporters on Monday ahead of Ghana’s crucial clash against England, the former Arsenal midfielder admitted it was difficult watching from the sidelines but insisted he is now fully focused on helping the team.

“Well, I think it’s part of football. Things happen in football that you cannot control. So, for me, now I feel okay, and I’m ready to play,” Partey told reporters on Monday.

After being cleared to join the squad in the United States, Partey is expected to make his first appearance of the tournament against England.

His availability comes as a major boost for coach Carlos Queiroz, whose side faces one of its toughest tests of the group stage against the European heavyweights.

The highly anticipated Group L encounter is scheduled to kick off at 20:00 GMT, with Ghana aiming to build on their opening victory and move closer to a place in the knockout rounds.
