The ten affected communities in the Birim North Municipality of the Eastern Region have received assurances from Zijin Mining Company regarding local job recruitment opportunities—without the previously required MRI scans for certain roles.
This development follows a press conference last week where youth from the affected communities raised concerns over what they described as an unfair recruitment process that sidelined locals in favour of outsiders.
In response, Zijin Mining’s Public Relations Officer, Philip Ashon, announced that the company would waive the MRI condition for specific job positions to make employment more accessible to residents.
He emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting the local economy and driving development through inclusive job opportunities.
Ashon also appealed to the communities to unite and collaborate with the company to promote sustainable development in the area.
The decision is expected to ease tensions between Zijin Mining and the local communities, while strengthening ties and contributing to the municipality’s economic progress.
