An official Investigation Board has begun work into the recent crash of a Z-9 helicopter, the Ministry of Defence has announced.
The Board, chaired by the National Security Coordinator, includes members from the Ghana Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
In addition to local expertise, the United States of America is providing advice and technical support through visiting investigators from the U.S. Air Force. Officials say other relevant experts and institutions, both in Ghana and abroad, may also be invited to contribute to the inquiry.
A preliminary investigation team was constituted immediately after the incident on August 6, 2025, to collect all available evidence to support the work of the Board. That team is expected to submit its findings to the Board today.
The Defence Ministry confirmed that the Investigation Board has been given 30 days to complete its work and submit its final report.
The crash tragically claimed the lives of eight distinguished Ghanaians, who have since been honoured as fallen heroes. They are:
-
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
-
Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed – Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
-
