Xandy Kamel triggers arrest of TV station CEO over copyright violation

The Chief Executive Officer of FAST TV, Mr. Obed Mawuli MiFutsu, has reportedly been arrested by the Odorkor Police in Accra over allegations of copyright infringement involving materials belonging to actress and media personality Xandy Kamel.

The arrest, which occurred on Thursday, July 31, 2025, followed a formal complaint filed by Xandy Kamel in collaboration with the Ghana Copyright Office.

According to officials, FAST TV allegedly broadcast copyrighted content from Kamel’s movie Unseen Beauty without authorisation. The film is currently streaming on her YouTube channel, XandyKamelsTV.

Despite receiving prior warnings and notices, the station reportedly continued airing the material, prompting legal action.

The arrest was made possible through the support of the Copyright Monitoring Team and the assistance of Mr. Socrate Safo, a long-time advocate for copyright enforcement in Ghana.

Commenting on the development, Xandy Kamel said:
“I have always believed in standing up for what is right, not just for myself but for every Ghanaian creative whose work is exploited or stolen. This is not personal. It’s a clear message that copyright laws in Ghana must be respected.”

Officials from the Ghana Copyright Office confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and more details will be shared as the case unfolds.
