Old Tafo MP Vincent Ekow-Assafuah has alleged that the Sports and Recreation Minister and officials of the National Sports Authority (NSA) created non-existent job positions for some visa applicants for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Mr. Assafuah, who doubles as the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Sports Committee, made the allegations in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

He alleged that some applicants who were not employees of the NSA or Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) were presented to foreign diplomatic missions as staff of the institutions to support their visa applications.

“Based on our own investigations, we came to realize that some of these persons were charged $8,000 and $9,000 to be given visas, and they were represented, or, if you like, presented, to these foreign diplomatic missions as staff of the National Sports Authority and Ghana Tourism Authority,” he said.

Mr Ekow-Assafuah cited correspondence in which Comfort Ahiadome was allegedly presented as the NSA’s board secretary.

He disputed that representation, arguing that the position was held by the Authority’s legal adviser at the time the email was sent on January 28, 2026.

He further stated that the current board secretary, identified as Mavis, could confirm that Comfort Ahiadome was not her predecessor.

The Ranking Member also raised concerns about Felicia Ahiadome, who he alleged was presented to the United States Embassy as a procurement officer despite not being among the NSA’s listed procurement officers at the time.

He said the positions used in the applications did not form part of the Authority’s organisational structure.

“These portfolios were created fraudulently. These portfolios do not exist as far as the organizational structure of the NSA is concerned,” he alleged.

The Minority has called for the immediate dismissal and prosecution of Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Eddie Adams and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, over their alleged involvement in the visa controversy.

The allegations form part of broader concerns surrounding arrangements for Ghanaians seeking visas to travel for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They have not, in themselves, established criminal liability against the officials named.
