Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has expressed strong confidence in the Black Starlets as they gear up for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), urging the young squad to aim for global success.
The team returns to continental action for the first time in eight years after securing qualification through last year’s WAFU B tournament, an achievement that has sparked excitement among Ghanaian fans.
Okraku, however, stressed that the ultimate target is a spot at the U-17 World Cup. “I believe they will go to the AFCON and make us proud. That will be a joyous moment for us again,” he told GFA Media.
“I think we belong to the elite group on the African continent. The first target is to qualify for the World Cup because that is the ultimate platform,” he added.
Ghana last competed at the U-17 World Cup in 2017 in India, where the team reached the quarterfinals.
Under coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, the Black Starlets have been in camp since the start of the year, honing their skills and preparing for the tournament. The U-17 AFCON is scheduled to take place in Morocco this April.
