The World Bank has donated 2,000 seedlings—1,000 coconut and 1,000 palm oil—to farmers in the Adansi South District as part of efforts to reduce poverty and unemployment through agriculture.

The donation was officially presented to the farmers at Bronikrom by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Oheneba Kwabena Andoh, and the District Director of Agriculture, Alfred Mensah, on behalf of the World Bank.

Speaking to Adom News after the ceremony, DCE Andoh emphasized that the initiative aims to boost both the health and economic well-being of residents in the district. He highlighted the economic value of coconut and palm oil, stating that their cultivation can significantly improve livelihoods.

Alfred Mensah, the Agric Director, explained that the project was made possible due to the dedication of farmers in the district, particularly those in Bronikrom. He noted that the World Bank’s decision to provide additional seedlings was influenced by the success of previous projects in the area, and he praised the farmers for their commitment and hard work.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support, noting that the quality seedlings give them hope for better yields. One farmer shared that before this initiative, they relied on random seeds from the market, many of which failed to bear fruit.

Another beneficiary recalled that farmers used to receive stipends to ease financial pressure and encourage their participation. However, she noted that these stipends have not been paid for the past three months, worsening their economic difficulties. She appealed to authorities to reinstate the financial support to help sustain their involvement in the project.
