Wontumi visits NPP headquarters after release

-

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, visited the party headquarters on Tuesday following his release by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Clad in all-white attire, Wontumi appeared in high spirits, smiling broadly and warmly exchanging pleasantries with party members.

In a brief address, he expressed gratitude to NPP supporters for their show of solidarity during his six-day detention.

Chairman Wontumi gave special thanks to NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, commending his leadership and support during the difficult period.

“I had to come and show how grateful I am. May God bless you. Everything will be fine,” Wontumi said.

Chairman Wontumi was granted bail of GH₵50 million with two sureties to be justified following his arrest on Tuesday, May 27, in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged fraud and money laundering.

His arrest has drawn widespread criticism within the NPP.

He remained in custody after failing to meet his bail conditions of GH₵50 million with two justified sureties on Wednesday, amid reports of ill health.

During his detention, scores of NPP members, including the Minority in Parliament, stormed EOCO’s headquarters to protest the bail conditions, describing them as excessive and unreasonable.
