Women’s Development Bank in the pipeline – Ama Pratt confirms

Ama Pratt , Press Secretary and Spokesperson to the Vice President

The Press Secretary and Spokesperson to the Vice President, Ama Pratt, has disclosed that plans are far advanced for the establishment of a Women’s Development Bank in Ghana.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Ms. Pratt revealed that although the initial budget allocation was inadequate, efforts are underway to raise over GH¢400 million to fully operationalise the initiative.

“We are actively working on the Women’s Development Bank,” she stated. “A working committee is in place, and engagements with banks and other stakeholders are ongoing. It’s being done for the people, so they are involved every step of the way.”

She emphasised that the aim is to support women across all sectors—particularly those who are currently excluded from mainstream financial services.

“The Vice President is committed to building capacity for all classes of women. We are working with the resources we have now, and though I can’t give an exact date, I can assure the public that the bank is coming very soon,” she assured.

The Women’s Development Bank is expected to enhance financial inclusion and economically empower women across Ghana.
