The 29-year-old woman rescued from a drain near the Afrikiko traffic light, close to Jubilee House in Accra, has been referred for psychiatric evaluation.
The woman, identified as Rita James and believed to be a Nigerian national, was found in the drain in the early hours of Wednesday, April 8, 2026, after a distress call was made to emergency services.

A rescue team arrived at the scene and successfully extricated her after efforts to bring her to safety.
She was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigations.
According to preliminary accounts, the woman claimed she had taken refuge in the drain overnight after allegedly being chased by unidentified individuals who intended to harm her.

Following initial investigations, she was referred to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Authorities are expected to continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
