With this spirit, you’ll beat every team in Africa – Sports Minister to Kotoko

Asante Kotoko

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has challenged the playing body of Asante Kotoko to replicate their resilient performance from the President’s Cup as they prepare for their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

The Porcupine Warriors staged an impressive comeback to defeat arch-rivals Hearts of Oak 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday—a display Adams believes should set the tone for their continental journey.

Addressing the team after the match, the Buem Constituency MP commended Kotoko’s fighting spirit and urged them to approach their African challenge with similar confidence and determination.

“You were so solid against Hearts of Oak. When we go to Africa with this kind of spirit, we will conquer every team,” he said.

“I just want to encourage and motivate you that you can make it—don’t be afraid,” Adams added.

Kotoko secured qualification for the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup after edging Golden Kick FC 2-1 in the MTN FA Cup final two weeks ago.

The Kumasi-based side has a storied history in the competition, with their best performance coming in 2004 when they reached the final, only to lose to Hearts of Oak in a memorable all-Ghanaian encounter.

Ahead of their continental campaign, Kotoko will warm up with two key tournaments—the 2025 Toyota Cup against South African giants Kaizer Chiefs and the 2025 GHALCA Top 4.
