Why should I be scared? – Adutwum shrugs off Bawumia’s grand reception at Delegates Conference [Audio]

A presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has said he wasn’t intimidated by the thunderous welcome Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received at the party’s recent national delegates conference.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Dr. Adutwum said he had no reason to be worried or scared.

“I was not scared at all. Why should I be scared?” he questioned.

His comment follows claims that Bawumia’s grand reception at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, where the event was held, might have shaken his confidence.

Thousands of enthusiastic party members, delegates, and supporters gave the former Vice President a hero’s welcome, cheering loudly and waving party flags as he arrived. His presence reportedly energised the crowd, with many standing, clapping, and singing patriotic songs.

But Dr Adutwum insists that the excitement was only natural.

“Some people were just happy to see him again. He’s a former Vice President, and many haven’t seen him in a while. They were saying things like, ‘Oh, it’s been long since we saw him,’ and were happy that he looked good and was in high spirits,” he said.

According to him, the warm reception was not necessarily a reflection of votes or support in the upcoming presidential primaries.

“Those who cheered him, how many of them will vote? Not everyone at the stadium will vote. So, if someone says I was scared because of the crowd, then the person is not being truthful,” he added.

Dr. Adutwum said he remains focused on his campaign and is confident that Ghanaians will judge him based on his message, not the size of a crowd.

“I know what I bring to the table. Ghana needs a visionary leader, and I am offering that vision. I’m not moved by crowd size,” he emphasized.

The NPP’s annual national delegates conference took place last Saturday and attracted thousands of party supporters across the country.
