Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has stated the need to rebrand the party to restore its appeal among Ghanaians as he officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Boadu described his campaign as a “new initiative to rebrand the NPP.”
He noted that negative perceptions of the party have lingered and must be addressed.
“Some of these things are very negative. It’s the kind of image people have of the NPP, and we must rebrand properly; otherwise, people will continue seeing us in the same light,” he said.
Reflecting on electoral trends in tertiary institutions, he noted that the NDC has gained ground in recent years.
“Even in tertiary schools, the NDC now wins most elections, and I don’t understand why. Back when I was National Youth Organizer, the NPP won almost everywhere, including Ho Polytechnic,” he recalled.
According to Mr. Boadu, the NDC’s success is largely due to their rebranding efforts.
“They rebranded their party, even with the shade of their colours, their shirts, and all, and it made a huge difference. We must do more as a party, and we must do it well,” he said.
He added that the NPP has lost touch with key stakeholders, including members of the middle class, and must take steps to reconnect with them.
“We need a proper consultation to look at the party and make it attractive again. We have to regain the confidence of major stakeholders who have stood with us in the past,” he said.
