Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Kwabena Agyepong, has urged the party to prioritise the election of its flagbearer ahead of the 2028 election.
The former NPP Presidential hopeful has said it will be his desire for the NPP to elect its candidate by December 2025, as an opposition party.
In an interview on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen, Mr. Agyepong emphasised that such a move will diffuse internal tensions and help members focus on rebuilding.
“If we are able to enlarge the base, thus the expanded electoral college, then we should elect the presidential candidate because he is the most important figure in the party. We cannot wait till 2026 without doing anything.
“The early election will ease a lot of tension and curb division. So by 2026, when we are holding the constituency and national elections, the base will know we have the presidential candidate” he said.
He emphasised that it is his desire for the party to conduct the flagbearer election by December 2025.
