Why I’m not worried Bawumia spoke at NPP Delegates Conference – Adutwum [Listen]

Yaw Osei Adutwum , Former Minister For Education

Presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has said he sees nothing wrong with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia addressing delegates at the recent national conference, despite concerns raised by some party members and the public.

Dr. Bawumia, who is the former Vice President and NPP’s flagbearer for the 2024 general elections, received a thunderous welcome when he arrived at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium last Saturday for the event.

He was the only potential candidate who was given the opportunity to speak at the conference, sparking questions from some quarters.

But Dr. Adutwum, in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, said he is not perturbed.

“He is a former Vice President, and I don’t see anything wrong with him being allowed to speak. At the end of the day, he has served the country in a high position,” he said.

Dr. Adutwum, who is also a former Minister of Education, admitted that because Dr. Bawumia is seeking to lead the party again, some people may question whether he was speaking for himself or on behalf of the party.

“Yes, he’s now also contesting to become flagbearer, so some may wonder if he was speaking for himself or for someone else, but personally, I’m not worried about it” he noted.

He explained that he has already had the chance to share his vision with Ghanaians through various radio interviews and other platforms.

“I’ve gone to several radio stations to explain why I want to lead the NPP. I’ve spoken to the people about my vision, and that is what is important to me,” he said.

According to Dr. Adutwum, if he had been given the opportunity to speak at the conference, he wouldn’t have hesitated, especially as a teacher who is good at speaking.

But he added that his main focus is ensuring Ghanaians understand his vision, not who got to speak at the delegates’ event.

“At a point, this country needs someone who can lead us to the Promised Land. I believe that with my vision, I am the right person to lead if I’m given the opportunity,” he added.
