Why I joined Asante Kotoko – Francis Acquah

Newly signed Asante Kotoko defender Francis Acquah says the club’s participation in the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup was a major factor in his decision to join the Porcupine Warriors.

The 24-year-old left-back was officially unveiled after completing a three-year move from Ghana Premier League side Bechem United.

Speaking after his unveiling, Acquah revealed that he had offers from multiple clubs but chose Kotoko due to the club’s stature and its return to continental football.

“There were other clubs interested, but the stature of Asante Kotoko and the fact that we’ll be competing in the CAF Confederation Cup played a big role in my decision,” Acquah told the club’s media.

“I’ve always heard about the passion and support this club receives in continental football, and I’m eager to be part of it for as long as I’m here,” he added.

Acquah made 94 league appearances for Bechem United before sealing his move to the Kumasi-based giants.

In addition to Acquah, Kotoko has also confirmed the acquisition of midfielder Hubert Gyau and winger Johnson Owusu Oppong as they strengthen their squad for the 2025/26 season.
