Hearts of Oak head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani has clarified the reason behind the absence of goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi from the matchday squad in the club’s clash against Hohoe United.

Agbasi, a former Dreams FC shot-stopper, has been one of Hearts’ standout performers since making his debut against Swedru All Blacks in November last year. His omission from the squad for the Phobians’ Matchday 18 encounter, however, sparked speculation among fans and pundits.

In his absence, Benjamin Asare returned to the starting lineup after spending weeks on the sidelines, as Hearts recorded a narrow 1-0 victory at the Hohoe Sports Stadium. Mawuli Wayo scored the decisive goal to secure all three points for the Accra-based side.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Dramani was quick to dismiss any rumours surrounding Agbasi’s omission, explaining that the decision was taken purely for the player’s welfare.

“Solomon Agbasi wasn’t on the bench against Hohoe United because I gave him a mental and physical break,” Didi Dramani said.

“The mental break meant not being on the bench at all, so he could properly rest,” he added.

The Hearts coach also expressed confidence in both Agbasi and Asare, backing the duo to earn call-ups to the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
