Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Samuel Nartey George, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, who perished in Wednesday’s tragic military helicopter crash.
In a sombre Facebook post, Sam George shared the depth of his sorrow, describing Dr. Boamah not only as a political ally but also as a mentor, father figure, and personal confidant.
“No one has had a greater influence on my political journey. I called you Boss, and you called me Bro,” he wrote. “You didn’t just guide me professionally — you loved and cared for my family. You chose the school for my children and always asked how they were doing each term.”
Clearly shaken, George admitted the loss has left him struggling to maintain his composure and questioning his faith.
“For the past seven months, you’ve been my anchor since I took office as Minister — preparing me for Cabinet meetings and showing me how to navigate my role. Now I ask, who do I turn to?” he said.
Dr. Boamah was among eight victims of the Ghana Air Force Z9 helicopter crash near Adansi in the Ashanti Region on August 6. The aircraft, which was travelling from Accra to Obuasi, lost radar contact shortly after takeoff.
Also killed in the incident were Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, and three members of the Ghana Armed Forces.
President John Mahama has directed that national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the deceased.
The country remains in mourning as it comes to terms with the devastating loss of some of its most dedicated public servants.
